Stephan Komandarev is one of the most prominent contemporary Bulgarian directors, producers, and screenwriters. He has received a great number of awards for his fiction and documentary films, such as: "Blaga's Lessons" (2023), "Rounds" (2019), "Directions" (2017), "The World is Big And Salvation Lurks Around the Corner" (2008), "The Judgment" (2014). He is a 2011 EAVE graduate and a member of the European Film Academy.
His latest film "Blaga’s Lessons" has been nominated for the Grand Prix at the Golden Globe Аwards and for Best Actress at Karlovy Vary Festival 2023. The film has received more than 35 international awards. Three of Komandarev's films have been selected as Bulgaria's submission to the Academy Awards for the Best International Feature Film competition.
